For nearly 40 years Cambridge Summer Music Ltd (CSM) has promoted live performances of classical music of the highest calibre in Cambridge and the surrounding villages.
Founded in 1979 as an organ recital series, CSM’s activity has grown to encompass vocal and instrumental music of diverse genres, ranging from the most intimate solo and chamber repertoire to works for massed choir and orchestra.
In 2016 CSM promoted nearly 50 concerts including Music in Quiet Places – our village chamber music series – the annual Cambridge Summer Music Festival in July, and other events. Through its activities CSM reaches more than 15,000 local, national and international concertgoers, enriching lives with music-making of distinction and maintaining the region’s vibrant classical music tradition.
We are delighted to announce that the 2017 Festival, July 14-29, will be directed once more by Juliet Abrahamson. Juliet, who was Festival Director from 1994-2015, has agreed to replace Keith Murray, who was appointed Director last autumn but has reluctantly had to step down.
Plans for the 2017 Festival currently include Gabrieli Roar, the Aurora Orchestra with Beethoven ‘Eroica’ Symphony from memory, pianist Freddy Kempf with the Wiener Kammersymphonie, and the Festival Chorus under Stephen Cleobury. The highly successful partnership with the University of Cambridge Botanic Garden will continue with the Sounds Green series on Wednesday evenings in July. More details soon!
