28 Mar Lunchtime Concert: Cambridge Voices Reinvented
Saturday 7 July 2018, 1.10pm
All Saints Church, Jesus Lane
by kind permission of the Churches Conservation Trust
Ian de Massini director
This concert commemorates one hundred years since the 1918 Armistice; the foundation of the Republic of Estonia; and the deaths of the composers Debussy and Parry. Performing without a conductor, the choir’s innovative programme will include excerpts from Victoria’s Battle Mass for double choir, four of Parry’s Songs of Farewell, and first performances of a choral version of the slow movement of Debussy’s String Quartet.
In addition there will be Leidvin Mons Takle’s Ave Maria (specially commissioned for this concert), We will remember them in Flanders Fields by choir director Ian de Massini and works by Estonian composers Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis.
This concert provides an opportunity to see inside All Saints Church – owned by the Churches Conservation Trust – a stunning example of Victoria architecture in which almost every surface has painted, stencilled or gilded decoration. The stained-glass windows were designed by leading Arts and Crafts artists, including William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and Ford Madox Brown.
Please note: there are no toilet facilities at this venue.
