Oliver Cope harp
Talented young harpist Oliver Cope is gaining a reputation for performances that are not just graceful and elegant, but full of energy and vigour.
A student of Ieuan Jones at the Royal College of Music, Oliver has chosen a varied and lively programme for today’s concert, including a Handel concerto for harp; La Source by the great nineteenth century teacher and player Albert Zabel (who was harpist with St Petersburg’s Imperial Ballet in Tchaikovsky’s heyday); and the virtuosic Rhapsodie by French-American composer, harpist and organist Marcel Grandjany. Composed in 1921, this youthful work, based on the theme of a Gregorian Easter chant, has become a recital showpiece.
